Everyday Heroes: Rachel

May 11, 2020

Rachel Albert, BSN, RN

Unit Base Educator, Kettering Health Network Emergency – Franklin

“COVID-19…has forced me to learn more patience, be flexible to constant change, and trusting of my team to ensure that we are all able to stay healthy and safe during these times”

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of emergency nursing is the constant change in patient variety and turnover, fast pace, and team collaboration between multiple care disciplines.

Why did you go into nursing, specifically the ED?

I decided to go into nursing for the total flexibility and vast opportunity that nursing offers. After being on a post-surgical floor for a couple years, I decided I wanted a challenge and more variety in my career. I’ve had the opportunity to see everything from birth to death in my nursing career. No day is like the previous and the constant unknown of what your next patient could face keeps emergency nursing adventurous.

Any comments on workflow experiences / personal challenges during COVID-19?

With the current COVID-19, the pandemic has brought about constant challenges, process changes, and unknown.  It has forced me to learn more patience, be flexible to constant change, and trusting of my team to ensure that we are all able to stay healthy and safe during these times.

Feel free to add anything else you want to say as the stage is all yours!

I absolutely love my Franklin ED team and can’t speak highly enough for the entire team that I work with. They are what keep me going day after day, to motivate myself to be a better nurse and person!
