“Everything starts for a patient with a laboratory result”

What is your favorite part of your job?

My favorite part of our job is that I am able to make a difference in other’s lives.  Everything starts for a patient with a laboratory result.

Why did you decide to go into Medical Laboratory Science?

I decided to go into medical laboratory science because I am a science nerd!  I love what I do everyday.

Any comments on workflow experiences/personal challenges during COVID-19?

The COVID-19 pandemic has been interesting.  Prior to the outbreak we were slam busy.  Since then, our routine workload and cultures have decreased, but our COVID-19 testing has ramped up.  One of the largest challenges is the daily change of information as situations surrounding COVID-19 are evolving.  As new information is discovered, guidelines change.  Our team has been resilient and worked hard to keep up on those changes.

Feel free to add anything else you want to say as the stage is all yours!

If you are wanting to go to school for a general Biology or Chemistry degree, do your due diligence and look into local MLT/MT programs.  The field is extremely rewarding and allows you to continue doing lab work.
