Everyday Heroes: Amy
Amy Bragg

“By making sure we have the most accurate and up-to-date diagnostic tests available to our clinicians, I make a positive difference and help our patients during this vulnerable time”
What is your favorite part of your job?
My favorite part of the job is the science. However, my co-workers are the ones who make the job fun, exciting and easy to come to every day.
Why did you choose healthcare as a profession?
In the healthcare profession, we see patients when they are most vulnerable, and they rely on us for care. I chose the healthcare profession to make a positive difference in the lives of the patients we serve. By making sure we have the most accurate and up-to-date diagnostic tests available to our clinicians, I make a positive difference and help our patients during this vulnerable time.
What is the biggest challenge you have seen in the Microbiology Lab with the COVID-19 pandemic and how have you chosen to handle this challenge?
The most challenging thing when dealing with COVID-19 is staying a step ahead and quick planning. This is accomplished by working long hours, staying informed, and getting people on-board to help outside of the normal job duties.
What or who was the biggest influence for you becoming a Laboratorian?
Initially, I was working on my pre-med degree; then, I started a family and decided my time with them was more important than my doctorate. Medical laboratory science matched up with my current degree plan, and after investigating the career path, I felt it was exactly where I was meant to be!
Where is the first place you will go once the COVID-19 pandemic is behind us?
A beach…any beach…with sand and sun!y
