Everyday Heroes: Jamie

Jamie Kendall

Laboratory Director, Comanche County Memorial Hospital, Lawton, OK

“It’s not always the patients we come in contact with, but their specimens, the lifeline of who they are”

Why did you choose healthcare as a profession?

As most people in the healthcare field, I chose to be a part of this profession to help people and make a difference in the life of the people we come in contact with daily.   From a laboratory standpoint, it’s not always the patient we come in contact with, but their specimens, the lifeline of who they are.   At times, these specimens are difficult to collect, but through diligence and skill we are able to provide the physicians a clue or an answer to what is causing their patient’s pain, sickness, or struggles.

Now more than ever, with COVID all around us, it is time for us Laboratory Professionals to shine, it is showcasing our hard work and bringing to light the struggles we face daily.  These struggles are all worth it at the end of the day because we know we are able to provide accurate, reliable results to assist the physicians in improving the health of their patient.   I love my profession and the people I work with, because daily we are making a difference behind the scenes.
